Against the backdrop of rapid development in Africa’s mining and infrastructure sectors, demand for heavy equipment transportation continues to grow, copper-cobalt mines in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, wind farms and the Mombasa-Nairobi Railway in Kenya, oil fields in Nigeria, industrial parks in Ethiopia, etc. The transportation of heavy equipment, including excavators, bulldozers, transformers, and drilling machine, is heavily dependent on low bed semi trailers.

The gooseneck is detachable, allowing the platform to be lowered to the ground so that tracked or wheeled equipment can drive on and off on its own, recommended for loads of 30 tons or more.

For axle brand recommendations, well-known brands such as FUWA and BPW are suggested. For the African market, 3-axle and 4-axle axles are recommended.

Mechanical suspension (leaf springs): Offers high overload capacity and can be repaired by any local welder or mechanic.
Air suspension: It provides effective shock absorption for delicate cargo (such as transformers), but it requires a clean air system and special accessories, which are difficult to obtain outside major cities, therefore, it should be selected with caution.
Mechanical suspension is recommended for the African market.
Tire Type: Radial tires (12.00R20 / 315/80R22.5, Level ≥ 18) are preferable for unpaved roads. Featuring deep treads and thickened sidewalls, they deliver excellent wear and puncture resistance for gravel and muddy roads to reduce flat tires. 1-2 spare tires are recommended.
Spare Tire Recommendations: Standardize fleet tire sizes to simplify spare parts management, avoiding mixed-spec tires common in remote areas.
Tire Pressure Management: Equip portable inflators and extended valve stem tubes. Properly lower tire pressure for soft sand and muddy sections to improve trafficability.

Southern Africa has well-paved and intact road networks. Standard low bed semi trailers can be used. No chassis reinforcement is required, while anti-corrosion treatment is necessary for humid coastal environments.
Recommended Configuration: Follow the axle load limit (single axle ≤ 10 tons)
West Africa is dominated by unpaved roads, which turn muddy, potholed and gravel-covered during rainy seasons. Heavy-duty semi-trailers with strong passability are required. The cargo platform shall be equipped with anti-slip and anti-scratch protection to resist gravel impact.
Recommended Configuration: High-ground-clearance chassis, mechanical suspension, reinforced checker plate, and rock guard.
The road network in coastal areas is well-developed, while some sections in inland areas are Gobi deserts and gravel roads, a low-bed semi trailer that balances high-speed travel and complex road conditions needs to be selected, which can be equipped with optional air suspension and mechanical suspension configurations.
Recommended Configuration: Two suspension options are available (mechanical/air).
Mine access roads feature steep gradients, loose gravel, and narrow spaces.

The performance of a low bed semi trailer depends largely on the tractor. Common configurations in Africa include:
For low-bed operations on unpaved roads, 6×4 or 8×4 tractors with 420HP to 460HP are recommended. tractors with insufficient power will find it extremely difficult to climb slopes on soft roads.
For paved roads, 371HP to 400HP is recommended.
Ensure that the tractor is equipped with an oversized cooling fan and a transmission oil cooler. Off-road driving at low speeds with high torque generates a significant amount of heat.
For hydraulic gooseneck trailers, a tractor with a shorter rear overhang (the distance from the rear axle to the fifth wheel) should be selected, an excessively long rear overhang can cause the front axle to lift off the ground under heavy loads, resulting in a loss of steering ability.
